ABSTRACT
The Center for Research and Innovation in Fruticulture for the Southern Zone will seek to make a coordinated use of the technological capacities available in different research institutions in Chile that will allows to face the technological challenges of the Chilean fruit industry. In addition,we look to strength the existing capacities in some areas, development and innovation to improve the competitiveness of the Chilean fruit sector, particularly in cherry, hazelnuts and walnuts, and meet the challenges of the sector with a trans-institutional and interdisciplinary perspective, with a view to the year 2030.
The proposed program will address the sustainability and efficient use of resources, the genetic aspects of fruit production and quality of the fruit. Further to the University of Chile, in this project participate the Center for Advanced Studies in Fruticulture (CEAF), the University of La Frontera, the University of Concepción, the Austral University and the National Agriculture Research Institute of Carillanca. In addition, important companies related to fruit production are associated as partners.
MAIN OBJECTIVE
To increase R & D & I in fruit production in Chile, through the articulated execution of portfolios of projects with a long-term vision, which will look to close technological gaps.
